24-30 GHz: public consultation outcomes and radio licensing open for some services

Long-term licence application for Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) gateways will open in June 2026.

Following public consultation in 2025, the Government has agreed to open long-term licence applications from 2nd April 2026 for FSS gateways currently operating under interim licences in these bands. Licensing for new FSS gateways is expected to open on 8 June 2026, with licensing for other types of satellite technologies to follow in due course.

The Government has also made decisions on the future use of 26 GHz for mobile services and method of sharing spectrum between mobile and satellite services in ‘lower 28 GHz’.
