Prohibited equipment
If electrical products or radio products are likely to cause widespread or severe interference to radio reception, a notice prohibiting the installation, use, sale, importation, distribution or manufacture of such products can be gazetted by the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) under regulation 32(1) of the Radiocommunications Regulations 2001.
Further, if the matter is sufficiently serious the supplier may be required, pursuant to a notice under regulation 36, to recall any product sold and refund the price paid for the product.
Any of the following are offences:
- The installation, use, sale, distribution or manufacture of animal tracking and training devices and the importation of animal tracking and training devices by other than a permitted person as prescribed in the Radiocommunications Regulations (Prohibited Equipment – Animal Tracking and Training Devices) Notice 2014
- The manufacture or importation of radio jammer equipment other than by or for supply to a permitted person; the sale or supply of radio jammer equipment to a person other than a permitted person; the use of radio jammer equipment other than by a permitted person as prescribed in the Radiocommunications Regulations (Prohibited Equipment - Radio Jammer Equipment) Notice 2011
- The installation, use, sale, distribution or manufacture of interfering decorative lighting equipment as prescribed in the Radiocommunications Regulations (Prohibited Equipment - Decorative Lighting) Notice 2006
- The installation, use, sale, distribution or manufacture of interfering wireless microphones operating in the ranges of frequencies 806 MHz to 812 MHz, 814 MHz to 819 MHz, 824 MHz to 864 MHz, 868.1 MHz to 921 MHz, and 929 MHz to 960 MHz as prescribed in the Radiocommunications Regulations (Prohibited Equipment) Notice 2002
Other notices may be gazetted whenever significant risk to the radio spectrum from particular interfering equipment is identified.
