Area search (licences)

Overview

Area Search (Licences) allows you to search for licences within a certain radius from a nominated point. You will be able to select a radius and frequency range as well as other search criteria if required.

Only licences with “point” or “multiple-point” locations will be found – licences with “name” or “defined area” locations such as “All New Zealand”, “North Island” or “Auckland City TLA” will NOT be found.

Follow the steps below to perform an area search.

You must Logon to SMART to perform this function.
 

Step 1

From Search the Register, click Area Search (Licences)

Step 2

You can EITHER:
Select Search Location to find an existing location for the “centre” of your search:

Go to Step 3

OR

Enter your own grid reference as the "centre" of your search:

Step 3

In the Search Location screen enter the location name (or part of the name):

You can use “wildcard” characters when entering the location name – see SMART tip #2 for details.


 

Step 4

Select Search to see a list of locations matching your search criteria:

If the list of locations does not contain the location you require, select [+] Show Search Criteria to open the search screen again. Re-enter your new name and select Search again.


 

Step 5

Click the “radio” button next to the location you want to select, and then click the Select button:

Your selected location will now be shown on the main Area Search screen:

Step 6

Enter the radius of your search and the frequency range:

If you enter a radius less than or equal to 0.5 km, you can enter any frequency range.
If the radius is greater than 0.5 km, the frequency range may be restricted to reduce the number of licences found. In this situation a message will appear:

Step 7 (optional)

The Licence Status will already be selected by default. You can select another licence status if required.

If you want to find licences ONLY owned by a particular licence-holder, select the Search Client button. This will then show the Search Client screen where you enter search criteria to return a list of clients to select.


 

Step 8

After all the relevant search criteria are entered, select Search. Note – there may be a delay while SMART processes the search:

Step 9

When the search is completed, the screen will show a summary at the top of the screen of the number of licences found together with the radius and frequency range entered. The results can be sorted by clicking on the column headers. Individual licence details can be viewed by selecting the Licence ID hyperlink.

If you wish to perform another search, select [+] Show Search Criteria to open the Area Search screen again. Re-enter your new search criteria and select Search again.


 

Step 10 (optional)

If you wish to download the licence data, you can select the Data Extract button. Information on the data extract process is detailed in the Data Extracts User Guide [673 kB PDF].
