New document outlines policy rules for the granting of radio licences

A new Radio Licence Policy Rules Public Information Brochure (PIB 58) outlines the policy rules for granting radio licences.

This new document complements the Radio Licence Certification Rules (PIB 38) which prescribes the technical certification requirements. The Ministry of Economic Development has created this document to clarify and update the operational policy rules for radio licences.

PIB 58 was initially published in draft form for public comment and feedback in March 2011. Nine submissions were received and these have been used to develop the final document. The submissions, together with a summary, can be found here.

All Approved Radio Engineers, Approved Radio Certifiers and anyone seeking a licence must now comply with PIB 58 before a licence can be granted.

PIB 58 introduces new policies and amends others. As a result, other operational policy publications and rules relating to the granting of radio licences have now been superseded. A list of the superseded documents is available here.
