Tips for radio technicians

RSM has published a Radio Frequency Interference Investigation and Resolution Guide [1.8 MB PDF] targeted at persons with a moderate to high level of electrical, electronic or telecommunications knowledge.

This document serves as a guide to locating and identifying Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) sources. The information provided outlines some common causes of interference and suggests a methodology to resolving them.

Changing technology means that the sources of interference are continuously changing and this will often mean adopting new technology and techniques. Nevertheless, well-established methodology that is systematically employed will normally serve practitioners well.

Although best practice in installation and maintenance is essential to preventing and minimising RFI, this guide does not address such aspects.

Regulatory measures are in place to prevent unacceptable levels of RFI pollution to the New Zealand radio spectrum resource.
