8.4 Future needs
167. Present 2.5 GHz band use in relation to television is based around present requirements for standard definition quality. Increasingly there will be a requirement for high definition services for both camera and portable linking uses. This will increase the bandwidth required (for example Grass Valley cameras provide 22 Mb/s in 8 MHz for SD and up to 75 Mb/s in 20 MHz for HD use). In addition the use of two-way linking, or main and standby linking, is already used occasionally and such requirements may increase over time.
168. Operation using digital equipment should assist in meeting these growth requirements. The existing frequency plans and licences should be reviewed to take these factors into account.
