5.1 VHF spectrum
Up one levelThe VHF spectrum which will be released is subject to a Management Right which expires in August 2015. There is no requirement to accommodate either transitional or ongoing digital television licences in these bands. The set top box technology being deployed for digital terrestrial use in New Zealand generally only receives the UHF frequency bands and the future utility of the VHF bands for television purposes is therefore quite limited. This is also consistent with overseas developments.
