Glossary of terms
| 2G | Second Generation Mobile Telecommunications |
| 2.5G | Enhanced 2G technologies that increase data rates and thus service capabilities, but use spectrum currently allocated to 2G services |
| 3G | Third Generation Mobile Telecommunications |
| CDMA | Code Division Multiple Access. Also used as a generic term for a family of cellular technologies developed in the USA. |
| CDMA - 2000 | The 3G iteration of the CDMA family of technologies |
| GSM | Global System for Mobile. A European 2G technology, widely used around the world. One of the New Zealand operators uses this and other technology in the GSM family |
| IMT - 2000 | The International Telecommunications Union’s designation of 3G technologies |
| IMT - 2000 bands | The spectrum designated by the ITU for 3G services in the 2GHz band (although not all 3G technologies necessarily must use these bands) |

| The Ministry | The Ministry of Economic Development |
| Vodafone or Vodafone New Zealand | The New Zealand operations of Vodafone |
