EMC Code of Practice for the Supply, Installation and operation of Power Drives Systems (Variable Speed Drives Paper) – Consultation paper 14 December 2010
The Ministry has prepared a consultation paper that discusses proposals for a new EMC Code of Practice RSM COP 002 and invites submissions from interested parties on those proposals. The consultation paper and proposed Code of Practice are separate documents.
Variable Speed Drives are currently being installed throughout New Zealand to provide improved control and efficiency of electric motors. If installed incorrectly they can cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) to radio services and sensitive electrical equipment.
The proposed “EMC Code of Practice for the Supply, Installation and Operation of Power Drive Systems (Variable Speed Drives)” includes the regulatory requirements for EMI and an attachment discussing the causes, effects and requirements for minimising Variable Speed Drive EMI issues.
The Code of Practice should be of interested to all those involved in the design, specification, supply, installation and operation of variable speed drives. The Code of Practice attachment should also be of interest to the wider electrical industry.
Submissions to the Consultation Paper close on 25 February 2011.
