Paging licenses
Paging Services can be licensed for either wide area or localised use. The service provider/answer service operates a strategically positioned transmitter to deliver the desired coverage and dictates how numeric and/or alphabetical information is passed to the pager.
Who does this licence apply to?
-
Persons or other legal entities that own and operate radio transmitting equipment for the purposes of paging.
Wide area paging
This service uses frequencies [157.6 MHz to 158.07 MHz] that are assigned on a New Zealand wide basis or on a district basis (e.g. All New Zealand, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu). The service delivers paging to registered users of the licence, within a particular coverage area.
Local area paging
This service uses frequencies that are assigned to a specific site for local paging.
The frequencies available for this service are listed in the Public Information Brochure PIB23 [235 kB PDF] (VHF and UHF Mobile Service Bands in NZ). Typical users of this service are rest homes, hospitals and industrial sites.
Applying for a paging licence
Application for a paging licence can be made online or by sending us a completed Radio 2L application form [179 kB PDF]. For applicable fees refer to the fees schedule.
Note: You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view and print the PDF documents.
