Searching the Register

The Register of Radio Frequencies is accessible online at all times. 

Any person may also visit the Registry office at:

The Register can be searched during working hours of 9 am to 4.30 pm.  Access may be possible outside of these hours.  Contact should be made in first instance with the Registrar.

For persons outside Auckland a search can be arranged through a local office, a friend or associate, a search agency or any firm of solicitors. Search agents can be found in the yellow pages under 'Legal Agents'.


Information available from the Register

Information can be extracted from the Register in the form of individual licences or management rights, lists of licences or management rights or licences within a specified distance from a specified point (area search).


Information may be extracted from the Register in two legal forms:

  • Search Copy - For information purposes. The Registrar may provide a search copy of a specified right or licence by post. Requests should be made by contacting the Registrar.
  • Certified Copy - A certified copy of any record in the Register is conclusive evidence in any court of law as to what it contains. It may be refuted only by a later dated certified copy or by the production of the Register itself.

 

Exceptions to public information on the Register

Two types of records are withheld from general public access and may not be viewed in the Register except by approved persons:

  • The residential address of natural persons who have asked the Registrar that this information not be given out.
  • Any record where the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development has advised the Registrar that the release of the record could be prejudicial to the security or defence of New Zealand.

Suppressed records may be viewed by the owner of the licence concerned, the Chief Executive for the purpose of ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, or such other persons as are approved in Regulations.
