Register of radio frequencies

What is the Register of Radio Frequencies?

The Register of Radio Frequencies is a public register of radio licences and spectrum rights issued by the Radio Spectrum Management Group (RSM) in New Zealand. The Register holds all information of assigned frequency use, including the licence or spectrum right holder details, and the time period for which the licence or spectrum right has been allocated.

The Register is maintained by an independent statutory officer of Registrar of Radio Frequencies.

To contact the Registrar email andrew.mulcahy@med.govt.nz.

The purpose of the Register is to record and offer for viewing all radio licences and spectrum rights. More specifically the Register can be examined to ascertain whether a particular spectrum record has registration of charges over rights (mortgages) and claims of legal interests in rights (caveats). In addition the Register provides access to necessary technical information needed for spectrum engineering.

How do I view the Register?

Exceptions to public information on the Register

Two types of records are withheld from general public access and may not be viewed in the Register except by approved persons:

  • The residential address of natural persons who have asked the Registrar that this information not be given out.

  • Any record where the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development has advised the Registrar that the release of the record could be prejudicial to the security or defence of New Zealand.

Suppressed records may be viewed by the owner of the licence concerned, the Chief Executive for the purpose of ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, or such other persons as are approved in Regulations.
