Engineering certification

Most types of Spectrum and Radio Licences require engineering certification by an Approved Radio Engineer (ARE) or an Approved Radio Certifier (ARC). This engineering can be done either by a Radio Spectrum Management ARE/ARC or an external ARE/ARC.

Auditing of ARE/ARC’s

RSM undertakes auditing of licence certificates to ensure compliance with the Act, Regulations, technical compatibility, best practice in radio spectrum engineering and the ongoing competency of the Approved Person. Certification of licences

Preparation of spectrum licences:

Spectrum Licences can only be certified by an Approved Radio Engineer (ARE). For more information on engineering spectrum licences, go to engineering spectrum licences.

Preparing of radio licences:

Radio Licences can be certified by Approved Radio Engineers (ARE) or Approved Radio Certifiers (ARC). For more information on engineering spectrum licences, go to engineering radio licences.

RSM fees for engineering licences:

RSM charges an engineering fee for a new licence or modify an existing licence, where the certification of the licence is done by RSM staff. This fee is separate to the Annual Fee payable by all licensees.

Pre-engineered licences, that is those submitted to RSM with a certificate signed by an Approved Radio Engineer (ARE) or Approved Radio Certifier (ARC), will be subject to an Annual Fee only. The ARE/ARC may charge the applicant for the engineering & certification service. The fee should be negotiated with the external engineer/certifier before the application is lodged to RSM.
