New - Report on submissions to Citizen Band Radio Services - Consultation Paper – September 2011As a result of a Citizens Band consultation paper published in December 2010, the Ministry received 14 submissions. As a result of those submissions a report has been prepared that identifies the significant submission proposals and outcomes, and adjustments have been made to the Citizen Band Radio General User Radio Licence.
Citizen Band Radio Services
Citizen Band Radio (CB) is a personal radio service that is available to every person or legal entity, without payment of licence fees or registration, for the purposes of local area voice communications.
CB radio services operate in the both the HF and UHF bands. CB in the HF band is known as Citizen Band Radio and CB Radio, and those in the UHF band is known as the UHF CB Radio or Personal Radio Service or PRS.
Use of CB services
Use of the Citizen Band HF and UHF services is on a shared basis and without privacy. Communications must be completed with due allowance for the rights of others sharing an open resource.
Users of the services must comply with the terms, conditions, and restrictions of the Citizen Band Radio General User Radio Licence (GURL).
Personal Radio Service (PRS) repeaters
UHF PRS repeater licences (licence type LR4) are available for those who wish to extend service coverage. Applications for a licence can be made by requesting an approved radio engineer or certifier to apply for a licence on your behalf. Approved engineers and certifiers may chage fees for their services and repeater licence fees are payable to the Ministry. The Ministry fees are available in the fees schedule.
Use of licensed PRS repeaters
Licensees of the PRS repeater should note that repeater use is on an open shared basis. Further information on PRS repeaters is detailed in Public Information Brochures;
