The most common forms of revenue are income from advertising, income from subscriptions, income from purchase of air time, income from investors, interest on investments, grants and donations, and government funding.
A licence agreement may place constraints on the use of particular types of funding: for example, MCH typically limits advertising revenue to 50% of total revenue for non-commercial broadcasting.
It is proposed that the terms ‘commercial’ or ‘non-commercial’ be defined and applied identically by agencies in drawing up licence agreements. Draft definitions of these terms are listed in the glossary (Appendix 2).
