Importing and exporting electrical and radio products
A key objective of the Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) group is to minimise the cost of regulatory compliance to importers, exporters and manufacturers by promoting international regulatory harmonisation in:
- Conformity assessment (accreditation of test facilities)
- Standards (mandatory standards)
- Regulatory compliance (documentation and product labelling)
RSM is continually working towards extending the application of all mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs), Closer Economic Partnerships (CEPs), and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), to include EMC of electrical and electronic products to the level of product labelling.
Mutual Recognition Arrangements
Countries which have mutual recognition arrangements with New Zealand:
- Asia-Pacific Economic Community
- Europe
- Australia
- Singapore
- People's Republic of China
- Taiwan
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test reports from accredited conformity assessment bodies in those countries are accepted by RSM.The Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement with Australia also provides for direct acceptance of compliant, correctly labelled electrical products and some radio products across both markets. Information regarding acceptability of specific products may be obtained from accredited testing bodies.
