SMART tip #2
Find more licences using wildcard characters in licence search
When entering search criteria for a licence search in SMART you can enter a wildcard character into your search string to enable you to find more results.
A wildcard character is a special character that represents one or more other characters. In SMART, the wildcard character percent (%) represents zero or more characters in a string of characters, and the underscore (_) represents any one character.
In SMART this would be useful where there are alternative spellings for the same location.
- For example, entering sky%tower in the Location field in Search Licences, would return results of licences where the location contained skytower, sky tower, skytower auckland, sky tower auckland, sky city tower etc.
- Another example using % would be if you entered m%t studholme. Your results could include mt studholme and mount studholme, etc.
- In a further example, entering b_ll in the Location field in Search Licences, would return results of licences where the location contained ball, bell, bill, boll, bull etc. Location names like Browns Hill would be excluded as there is more than 1 character between the “b” and the “ll”.
The above wildcard characters can be used in the Licensee field as well.
