What is the fee for amateur operators?
From 1 July 2005 there are no annual fees for amateur operators.
What are the fees for amateur repeaters/beacons/fixed links?
These remain individually licensed - see section OA1 of the fee schedule.
How do I change my amateur callsign
Your amateur callsign can be changed by completing a Radio 1 application form and including a list of preferred callsigns. There is no charge for this.
How do I know what callsigns are available
You can search SpectrumOnLine to check callsign availability.
How do I apply for an amateur licence

I am an amateur operator visiting New Zealand – what do I need to do?
- Staying less than 90 days – see the General User Radio Licence
- Staying more than 90 days but less than 1 year – apply for an authorisation
- Send the original or a certified copy of your overseas licence, your arrival and departure dates, and a covering letter requesting an authorisation.
- Staying more than 1 year – apply for a NZ amateur licence
- Complete a Radio 1 application form and send the original or a certified copy of your qualification.
