Supplier audits

Who can be audited?

The Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) group may audit anyone who manufactures, imports, distributes, sells or otherwise supplies electrical, electronic or radio products in New Zealand.

Why have audits?

The New Zealand compliance framework aligns with the international trend of moving towards light-handed industry self-regulation.  However, auditing is necessary to monitor and enforce compliance and maintain the integrity of the framework.

Proactive auditing provides RSM with the opportunity to:

  • promote the design and engineering of electrical, electronic and radio products which minimise radio pollution,
  • strengthen relationships with the electrical, electronic and radio product industries,
  • ensure that Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) requirements are met, and
  • maintain the value and usability of the radio frequency spectrum in New Zealand.

What is the auditing process?

RSM conducts routine audits. Audits are usually arranged in advance and suppliers given a minimum of ten days notice.  RSM may also conduct audits without prior notice.

During the audit, the Radio Inspector would expect to see:

  • proper product labelling,
  • a correctly completed and signed Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDOC),
  • a product description that clearly identifies the product,
  • where relevant, a test report or other document evidence that confirms compliance to an applicable standard,
  • where appropriate, a product variant statement.

Your checklist to prepare for a product audit:
  • SDOC
  • Product description
  • Test report
  • Labelling
